Pointe
We offer pointe classes for advanced student only. The dancers in this class wear specially designed shoes that let them dance on their toes. This class is available for ballet students who are a minimum of eleven years old and have met the length of study requirements. Special pointe preparation classes are
offered during the summer session to prepare students for pointe work. Miss Lauri evaluates all the older ballet students every year to see who is ready to take a pointe class. If you are new to the area and want to try out for Miss Lauri to see if you are ready for pointe work just call the studio (443-8373) to set up an evaluation time. Miss Lauri teaches all the pointe classes from beginners to the more advanced students.

When do you suggest putting a child on pointe? The correct answer should be: "Around 11 - 14 years old." An even more correct answer would be: "We assess each child before putting them on pointe." Putting a child on pointe too early can be dangerous for the child. Growth plates need to close, ankle alignment needs to be checked. After it is determined the child is ready, exercises should be taught to address strength and mobility of the ankle, hip, core muscles and feet.
